Promoting electric drive technologies and infrastructure

EDTA Applauds Kohl-Blunt Bill to Advance Electric Drive Trucks and Charging Infrastructure

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Washington, DC - June 28, 2011 - Today, Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI) and Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) introduced S.1285, the Hybrid and Electric Trucks and Infrastructure Act, legislation that would provide tax incentives for buyers of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery electric medium and heavy-duty trucks. This bill takes a multi-pronged approach to modernizing the vehicle fleet. It would restore the currently-expired Section 30B hybrid motor vehicle tax credit, helping manufacturers reach economies of scale and bringing down the cost of these technologies for consumers. It would also promote investment in charging infrastructure and in fuel and emission-saving anti-idling technologies.

Below is a statement about the bill from Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA) President Brian Wynne:

“EDTA applauds the introduction of this important legislation, which provides key incentives to help U.S. businesses purchase fuel-saving electric drive trucks and install recharging and refueling infrastructure for plug-in and alternative fuel vehicles.”

“S. 1285 recognizes that advanced technology trucks have the potential to save millions of gallons of fuel and substantially reduce air pollution emissions. These incentives will help businesses take advantage of efficient technology options and will spur greater investment in advanced vehicles and components manufacturing. “Accelerating the adoption of electric drive and hybrid vehicles will bring the nation greater energy security, a stronger economy and a cleaner environment. We commend electric drive champions Senators Kohl and Blunt and look forward to continuing to work with them to advance electric drive and reduce our nation’s dangerous dependence on foreign oil.”
