DOE Announces $445 Million Loan to Li-Cycle to Recover Critical Electric Vehicle Battery Materials

As part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America agenda, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the closing of a $475 million loan ($445 million of principal and $30 million of capitalized interest) to Li-Cycle U.S. Inc. (Li-Cycle). The loan will help finance the construction of a first-of-its-kind lithium-ion battery resource recovery facility in Rochester, New York, which is expected to create approximately 825 construction jobs at peak construction and more than 200 permanent jobs once fully operational.
